La Tomatina Festival

Join the world's largest food fight at La Tomatina in the small town of Buñol near Valencia. This unique Spanish festival sees over 20,000 participants throw more than 150,000 tomatoes at each other in an epic hour-long battle that leaves the streets awash in red pulp. The tradition dates back to 1945 and has grown into an internationally famous event. Before the tomato fight begins, participants attempt to climb a greased pole to retrieve a ham, and water cannons signal the start of the chaotic but good-natured battle. The festival continues with music, dancing, and paella cooking contests.
